Abstract

|
|
Kim Doo-jong, an important figure in the history of medicine in Korea, wrote History of Korean Medicine, which remains one of the most important works on that subject He mentions that Jejungwon became Severance Hospital; however, he does not mention that Daehan Hospital, founded in 1908, became Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) in 1946. Seoul National University (SNU) professors who graduated from Keijo Imperial University Medical School conspired to distOl1 the origin of SNUH_ They argued that SNUI-I originated from Jejungwon ("missionary hospital"), Gwangjewon ("oriental hospital"), and Daehan Hospital ("colonial hospital"). If SNUH argues that it is the successor of these three hospitals, it should give up its identity as a western hospital. To distort (he st01Y of its origin, SNUH has created ideas such as the National Hospital theory and the National Central Hospital theory.
